Waste Oil Management Options in Singapore

Waste Oil Management Options in Singapore

Many are unaware, but the most significant liquid hazardous waste in Singapore is the waste from lubricating oil. Instead of just disposing of the oil into the drain or any nearby body of water, it is good to know that waste oil can be distilled and reused. Some companies would pay to collect your waste oil so that they recycle and reuse it.

If you are still wondering what to do with your lubricating oil waste, here are some helpful hints for waste oil management:

1. Proper waste lubricating oil storage for collection and recycling

The first step in proper oil disposal is to dispose of waste oil in the appropriate container. Transporting the oil in its original tanks is the most dependable method. To avoid leakage that could endanger the environment, the storage container should also be tightly sealed. To avoid spillage, the used oil should be appropriately poured into a storage container. The storage unit should be clearly labelled after it has been tightly sealed. IBC tanks and metal drums are examples of containers.

2. Do not pour it down the drain, sink, or into a nearby river

As previously stated, it should be properly stored and labelled with the goal of later disposing of it correctly, sending it for recycling, or using the services of a professional.

There are different legal requirements depending on where and how the waste oil was produced. Waste lubricating/hydraulic oil is considered hazardous waste and may be subject to additional regulations.

3. Waste oil should be properly packed and stored in a secure location

Because you may be unable to dispose of the waste oil on the same day you replace it from your machine, make sure it is kept in a secure location where no one without the necessary information can access it, especially if children and pets are present. To avoid confusion, waste oil should not be stored in the same location as unused oil, especially if it is in regular fuel storage.

4. Consult with professionals to properly manage your waste oil

Every waste generator does not have the right to dispose off their waste. You can still contact a local waste oil collection company if you do not have the permission of the National Environment Agency of Singapore to dispose off waste oil. The majority of waste oil disposal companies have the necessary equipment and facilities in place to ensure safe and efficient waste oil disposal. When applying for such programmes, keep the level of expertise and cost in mind.

5. Only authorised transporters can transport hazardous waste to recovery facilities

Waste generators should always keep in mind that unauthorised transporters will bring your company into disrepute. Furthermore, certain scheduled waste collectors frequently accept oil filters, oily rags, and waste oil cans.

Conclusion

Lubricating oil waste is a significant hazard to the environment. In fact, the environmental threat caused by the dumping of oil waste into a water body can be hard to fix and may even be permanent.
